Chapel Barn Cottage - Local Amenities
Orton village is distinguished by its two becks with their small arched stone bridges. It dates from the 13th Century and became an important wool trading centre: in amongst the small stone or whitewashed houses and cottages are several buildings which are architecturally and historically fascinating.
A short walk from Chapel Barn is a well stocked shop/ Post Office. The shop offers a good range of local produce - you can even order your daily paper during your stay.
The George Hotel is the local pub. In addition to real ale it serves a wide range of excellent food, again making frequent use of locally sourced products. The George has a friendly atmosphere and a roaring fire in winter.
The village is home to Kennedy's Chocolate Factory, where luxury chocolates are made on the premises.
It also hosts a thriving Farmers' Market every second Saturday in the month. |
